Today there were about 40+ students and they rotated in small groups between stations for putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing. There were lots of varied setups and hitting techniques but with a little coaching many started to get the hang of things. One young girl around age 10, hit the ball with a 3 wood a good 100 yards! There was also a small group of visiting students from China. They did not speak English so it presented a special challenge. However, with a lot of demonstrations and one word instructions, most started to get the hang of things.
It was a lot of fun being a coach, sharing golf techniques, and watching these young folks learn the game and core life values. Although, it got a bit warm later in the morning...99 degrees! Remember golfers need to be sure to keep hydrated, wear sunscreen and a hat. The kids were a lot of fun, the other coaches were great and the First Tee is doing wonderful work with these junior golfers.
