Want 10 more yards of distance? Increase your swing speed by about 4 miles per hour (MPH) and you have increased your distance by 10 yards. Want 20 more yards, increase the swing speed by 8 MPH.
Here's an example:
Let's say your swing speed is 85 MPH. With sound fundamentals your driving distance would be about 212 yards. Pretty good! But wait ... add 8 MPH to your swing speed to get 94 MPH and your distance is now 232 yards. That's about 2 less clubs on your next approach shot. Yahoo!
How to get more speed?
Ok, this may sound a bit snarky, to get more speed - swing faster! One way to swing faster is to speed up your backswing a little and make a little bigger back turn. This primes the engine to make a more speedy downswing.
