![]() I saw this majestic bird yesterday at hole #5 at Randolph North Golf Course (Figure-1). I wanted to include it in a blog post and thought that it appeared to be keeping a 'hawk eye' on the balls that were zooming by. It started me thinking about golf expressions like "Keep your eye on the ball" which has been said over and over again in golf swing terms. It is important to have your eyes looking at a specific part of the ball at setup and through swing impact to help make solid contact. ![]() Similarly, I am sure you have heard "keep your head down." What is really meant by this expression is to keep the upper body bent or tilted toward the ball (target line) during the swing. This posture will increase the chance for a solid strike and improved accuracy. As shown by the two yellow lines in Figure-2 the golfer is maintaining the upper body tilt towards the ball through impact. ![]() Here is another example of a golfer finishing the follow through and still keeping the upper body bent towards the ball/target line forming a curved C (Figure-3). A lift of the upper body can cause the clubhead to lift or pull away from the ball resulting in a topped shot or other aggravating miss hits. Keep your eye on the ball and maintain that upper body tilt throughout the swing and you can be making more consistent and accurate golf strikes! Want your swing checked?
