The Adjustments:
- Aim a little to the left since the ball flight on a downhill lie typically tends to go a bit to the right for a right handed golfer.
- Next, play the ball a little back in your stance (red arrow in the image) to get solid contact helping to avoid a thin shot.
- Now, adjust your shoulders in line with the slope (yellow line in the image) so that you can swing along the angle of the slope and not in to it.
- Use a slightly shorter swing arc to help ensure good contact, therefore, use one extra club (e.g. 8 iron instead of 9).
- Finally, don't try to lift the ball up or kill it -- swing through the ball with normal intensity.
Practice this technique for downhill lies and see your consistency with these shots rise!
