Chipping, also known as chip and roll or bump and run, will usually have a low flight that lands on the green and then rolls like a putt. Let's look at several setup keys for reliable chipping so that we can get the ball close to the hole and occasionally get a chip in the cup:
- Stance: have a narrower stance than regular iron shots -- typically less then shoulder width.
- Weight Distribution: lean about 55-60% of your weight on the lead leg to help get a solid strike.
- Ball Position: play the ball slightly back of center to get solid ball contact and a low flight.
There are a couple more setup and swing adjustments that can help with chipping but the three items above are essential for a good chip and a Hooray!
